Skincare Trends for 2022

Every year we’re overwhelmed with tons of new beauty and wellness trends. There are always new products and devices emerging, and it can be tricky to decide what’s worth it and what isn’t. We’re going over our favorite beauty and wellness trends for 2022 so you can start your year off right.

Cryotherapy

Cryotherapy is a method of skin treatment that utilizes freezing or near-freezing temperatures. Cryotherapy is known to reduce inflammation and relieve pain. It can also soothe the skin and aid in muscle recovery. There are tons of different types of treatments that use cryotherapy both at home and at cryotherapy spas. If you’re looking to try out cryotherapy at home, it is important that you invest in a few tools to get started. You may think that simply using an ice cube could do the trick, but it has been found that applying an ice cube directly to the face could result in damage to the skin.

"Most ice globes on the market contain a gel-like substance that cools to a low temperature," explains Dr. Zeichner. "However, they are not damaging to the skin in the same way that holding an ice cube to your face could be. Excessive exposure to cold temperatures can lead to frostbite in the skin or damage to underlying fat” (Dr. Zeichner, Allure).

There are a few different types of tools and products that you can choose from. Check out Mia Dragani’s recommendations for cryotherapy skincare tools by clicking here.

LED Light Therapy

LED light therapy uses wavelengths of red and blue light on the skin. This type of therapy does not contain ultraviolet rays, making it safe to use on the skin regularly without damaging the skin barrier. LED light therapy helps to treat acne, sun damage, wounds, and more.

“When it comes to cosmetic procedures, a review of several studies indicates that LED light therapy devices can improve a range of skin conditions, including psoriasis and mild-to-moderate acne” (Medical News Today).

There are a few different types of devices that you can purchase to incorporate LED therapy into your skincare routine. From full LED masks to handheld devices, there are hundreds of options to choose from. Our favorite LED light therapy device is LightStim. Each LightStim product uses different wavelengths, or colors, of light. When this beneficial light is applied directly to the skin it helps to increase collagen and elastin production, reduce inflammation, speed healing, increase circulation, and destroy acne bacteria. We have 3 LightStim devices available for purchase at ZZ Day Spa and online: LightStim for Acne, LightStim for Wrinkles, and LightStim for Pain. CBD Products and Treatments

CBD is available in many different forms, and has been rising in popularity for the past few years. “Cannabidiol (CBD) is an active ingredient in the cannabis plant, according to Harvard Health Publishing. CBD can be derived from either medical marijuana or hemp. Although marijuana contains CBD, CBD doesn’t have psychoactive effects. (THC, tetrahydrocannabinol, is the chemical that causes the high.) All that said, CBD won’t lead to any mind-altering effects” (Everyday Health). You can find almost any type of skin care product with CBD ingredients such as moisturizer, cleanser, lip balm, sunscreen, shampoos, and more. CBD has been found to help reduce inflammation, scarring, psoriasis, and eczema. It can also benefit those who struggle with acne, wrinkles, and sensitive skin.

Whenever you decide to try a new skincare technique, it is important to do a patch test to be sure that you do not experience any negative reactions. The trends we’ve mentioned in this article are safe for any skin type, but it is always a good idea to make sure that your skin won’t react poorly to new treatments. The world of skincare is always advancing, and we hope that we’ve helped you to gain insight on some of the current and upcoming trends for 2022!
