ZZ Day Spa Cold Weather Skincare Tips
Believe it or not, the weather has a large impact on skin health. You may find as the temperature drops, your skin becomes dry or flakey, even cracked. We’ve come up with our favorite cold weather skincare tips to keep your skin healthy and glowing throughout the season.
Moisturize
The most important tip of all to maintain healthy skin during the winter months is to moisturize. Be sure to moisturize the entire body, face, and lips to keep your skin looking and feeling its best. You may want to consider reaching for a thicker, heavier moisturizer during this season to ensure that you will not experience any dryness. There are even overnight moisturizing treatments that you can add to your routine to maximize benefits.
Skincare Routine
You may want to switch up your skincare products as the seasons change. As the climate around us changes, so does our skin and the skincare products it may need. Try to incorporate a thicker, more rich moisturizer into your routine to keep chapped skin away, and don’t forget to exfoliate weekly. For cleansing, stick to gentle cleansers without harsh ingredients that may strip the skin or natural oils.
“Look for washes that are labeled ‘for sensitive skin’ or ‘dye free’ and ‘fragrance free.’ Oftentimes they contain fewer drying ingredients and more moisturizing ones like hyaluronic acid, ceramides, oils, shea butter, and oats.” (Dr. Hayag, everydayhealth)
Regular Facial Appointments
Regular visits to your esthetician are important year-round, but if you’re struggling to adjust your routine, your esthetician can guide you along the way. They will help monitor your skin, see what is working and what isn’t, and make recommendations based on your progress. The best way to create the ultimate winter skincare routine is with the guidance of a professional. Check out our in depth blog about regular monthly facials by clicking here.
SPF
It’s easy to forget to apply sunscreen during the winter, but the sun’s rays are working all year round. Be sure to apply SPF daily when going outside. Just because it’s cold, doesn’t mean you won’t be exposed to as many UV rays as you are in the summertime. Protecting your skin from sun exposure will fight aging, sun damage, and skin cancer.
Hydration
Take care of your skin from the inside by drinking sufficient amounts of water. It’s easy to remember to hydrate in the hot summer months, but we can’t forget about maintaining hydration during the winter.
“Many people underestimate the power of drinking water and the positive affects it can have on your skin and your overall health. Your skin is the largest organ in your body, protecting you, storing lipids and water, preventing fluid loss and serving as thermoregulation. Drinking more water is the most natural way to get that beaming, glowing and healthy skin we all want.” (Pure Luxe Medical)
