Which couples massage is best for couples?

There are several different types of massages and there are many different benefits to each, but which type of massage is best for a couples massage?

The four types of massage therapy for couples are:

·      Classic Swedish massage

·      Deep Tissue massage

·      Aromatherapy massage

·      Hot Stone massage

The truth is, the best type of couples massage is whichever type of massage that you will both enjoy the most.

If you and your partner have never gotten a massage before, however, it may seem like reaching a decision will be more difficult. We strongly recommend a classic Swedish massage for beginners. Although Swedish massages are the standard in the western world, they are the most popular choice for couples massages and are wonderful for general relaxation. The calming experience of a Swedish massage is perfect for relieving tension and will also allow you to focus on bonding with your partner.

For couples who have conditions such as back pain, a deep tissue massage may be a better choice. The pressure for a deep tissue massage is generally firmer and more intense than that of a classic Swedish massage, but the experience is tailored to your preferences so you can always let your massage therapist know how much pressure you’d like. Deep tissue massage is performed slower and focuses on working out the knots in your muscles and surrounding tissue, making this type of massage perfect for those who experience muscle tension problems from sports injuries or overuse.

On the other hand, those who have gotten a massage before but haven’t experienced the all the different kinds of massages may take this as an opportunity to try something new. Perhaps an aromatherapy massage or hot stone massage could help spice things up a bit. The techniques of classic Swedish massage are applied in aromatherapy massage, but aromatherapy massage also uses essential oils extracted from flowers and plants to help you relax and energize. For hot stone massages, massage therapists place smooth, heated flat stones on specific points on the body and hold the stones while performing the massage. The use of hot stones helps relax tight muscles, reduce stress, and help you get better sleep.

You don’t have to get the same massage that your partner is getting! If you have a preference that is different from that of the person you’re going to a couples massage with, don’t be afraid to call and ask the spa if you can get a different massage instead. They will more than likely be able to arrange a couples massage that is fitting for the both of you for a small additional fee. The massages will still be performed in the same room, so you will still be able to have the experience at the same time as your special someone even if you aren’t getting the same treatment.

No matter which type of massage you decide to go with, your couples massage will definitely be a romantic and relaxing experience to remember!
